Honor the Texas Flag

Last week Austin was one of four chosen out of his class to help with the school's morning announcements today. He is so excited! His part is to do the Texas Pledge. He's been practicing for the last four days. Pretty cute. Here's his part:

Hello, my name is Austin. Please stand and face the Texas flag.

"Honor the Texas flag.
I pledge allegiance to thee
Texas
One state under God
One and indivisible."

Please remain standing for your moment of silence.

He has been so excited to do this. He thinks he's going to be on TV. I guess he is in a way. They show the announcements on TVs in each classroom in the morning. Pretty fun for a little guy. I wish it was on regular TV so I could watch him! The moment of silence at the end, I am told, is to let the kids think about making good choices and what they want to do with their lives. (It was actually mandated in 2003.) Wouldn't you just love to know what's going through those little Kindergartner minds? What kind of choices do they make? And what will they do with their lives ahead of them? I'd just love to hear their thoughts. Think how much they must change from year to year. They seem so innocent still in Kindergarten.

*Does your state have it's own pledge? Or is it just a Texas pride thing? Because we all know Texas is a uniquely patriotic state!

It's a............

Today we had our ultrasound and found out we're having a little girl! PINK! I just can't believe it! We are so, so, so excited! It will be so fun to have some pink around here! We really felt like it was going to be a girl since this pregnancy has been so different than all of my others. I can't even tell you how excited I am! It's so fun to finally know for sure! Now we just can't wait to find out what she looks like! For now we'll just keep practicing saying "she" and "her". So strange! A girl! Wow!
The boys are all excited to have a sister finally. Austin’s been saying he wants it to be a girl so he can have a sister. Dallin wanted to have another brother but I don’t think he really understood that there is another option! He is happy she’s a girl though. Coen…well he doesn’t really have an opinion one way or the other. In fact he doesn’t even know a baby is coming! They all got to come with us to our appointment and loved hearing the heartbeat and seeing the baby. They especially loved watching her little heart beating (beeping as they say) and seeing her move around. They’re all going to be such good big brothers. What a lucky little girl!

Our Easter Celebration

We had a wonderful Easter this year. In fact throughout the day I kept saying to Tory, "This Easter is just perfect! It's really just worked out great!" By the end of the day he was pretty much laughing at me. But what can I say? It really was a great day.

It actually started out the day before. I boiled 18 eggs and not a single one cracked! And not a single bit of grey on the yolks! The boys each dyed 5 eggs and we saved the rest for deviled eggs. They even managed to dye them without cracking any! That is definitely a first! AND we started early enough in the day that we didn't feel rushed to get it done so they could go to bed. Wow! What a little advanced planning will do, eh?

Then it was the first year since we've been married that the Easter Bunny didn't visit Tory and me. What took us so long?! I guess we've just been keeping up our little tradition we started before we had kids. A couple less baskets makes a big difference!

The older boys were up at 6:30 to see their baskets. They checked the giant carrot they had left out for the bunny and noticed he had nibbled quite a bit of it. We had fun checking everything out and then searching for the eggs that were hidden. Then the boys had to re-hide them a couple times each. Coen decided to join us a little over an hour later. He started shaking when he saw his basket (and more importantly the candy in it)! He was so excited!

Our church doesn't start until 2:00 in the afternoon so we had plenty of time still. Austin decided he really wanted to watch an Easter movie. He searched through our DVD collection and found one with a picture of Jesus on the front and asked if it was a good one for Easter. It turned out to be a GREAT one! It was "Finding Faith in Christ" and it is basically a story of Jesus' life told by Thomas to one of his friends. I loved how it really set the tone for the REAL reason of Easter. That will for sure be one of our new traditions. We then talked a little bit more about how Jesus died for us and his resurrection.

We later went to church and enjoyed the great talks and lessons. We were all decked out in our spring colors. Tory and Austin were sportin' the green, Dallin and Coen had blue, and I represented the pink in the family. We didn't get a chance to take a picture before church and unfortunately Tory made a beeline to our room to change as soon as we got home. And he wouldn't change back! Can you believe it?! So we only have a picture of me and the boys. And of course since it's taken AFTER church they are all untucked. Oh well! At least we got one right?

Since it was already 5:30 by the time we got home we had to make our Easter dinner quick! Luckily I had made all I could the day before so all we had to wait on were the potatoes. It was nice and easy (and many a comment came out of me about our "perfect" day at that point! Ha!) When I was planning the menu I just didn't feel like ham and I really didn't want to do a big turkey so I finally decided to do ribs. Tory cooked them out on the grill while I got the other stuff ready. We had bar-b-q ribs, oven roasted potatoes with bacon, shrimp pasta salad, a giant veggie platter, and deviled eggs. We were supposed to have rolls but I forgot to set them out while we were at church. Oops! We dimmed the lights, lit the candles and had a nice dinner. Then we had banana split dessert to finish it off.
What a great Easter!

What are the Chances?

What are the chances of having an entire box of Malt-O-Meal and and entire drum of oatmeal spilled in one day? Dumped. Two separate incidences hours apart from each other. Who would have thought? Both of them had just been opened within the last couple days. We're talking a lot! I caught Coen shaking out the last granules of the Malt-O-Meal onto the large pile on the carpet as I finished making lunch. And the oatmeal? Well, the culprit remains a mystery but I'm putting my bets on Dallin. I'm ready for bed. Wonder what we'll have for breakfast in the morning?

Need a Reminder?

Our ward always sends out a little email with announcements and things to remember each week. This week I was noticing a link they had to help people remember to read their scriptures and other church reading. I had to check it out. It's so cool! Maybe you have heard about it but I hadn't. You can pick your reading from several options: Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, etc. There are even links for seminary reading, The Ensign, Sunday School reading, Primary Lessons and the current Relief Society/Priesthood manuals! You can set up your reading schedule however you'd like and start at any point. They will send you an email reminder with the passages you need to read. So, for instance, if you choose to read one chapter a day in the Book of Mormon they will send you an email each day with one chapter. After you have completed it you check a box and then they'll send the next one to you. They won't send the next one until you check the completed box though so you won't get behind. And if you're really getting into it one day, you can click a box saying you want to read ahead and they'll keep sending you more. Isn't that cool?! I thought so! You can also create your own private journal and even make groups and invite friends to join in. There's also an audio option with each scripture reading. Check it out! Some of us need all the help we can get!

Nerdy Popcorn

8 cups popped popcorn

1 box Nerds candy

1/3 c. sugar

3 Tbls. butter

1 Tbls. light corn syrup

Combine popped popcorn and nerds in clean, brown paper grocery bag. Set aside. Combine sugar, butter, and corn syrup in small saucepan. Bring to boil and stir constantly for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Add food coloring if desired. Pour sugar mixture over popcorn in bag. Roll top of bag down and shake hard for 1 minute. Pour out onto wax paper or cookie sheets to cool. Store in airtight container. (Kind of hared, kind of gooey. And the Nerds soften up a lot so they're not like jaw breakers!)

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day and may lots of luck come your way today!

We had some fun doing "green" things today. We had a green lunch. Sandwich wraps made with green tortillas (the spinach herb variety). These are one of our favorite things anyway. We like to spread chive and onion flavored cream cheese, tomatoes, shredded carrots, and lots and lots of spinach. You can also put smoked turkey and cheese in there and that's tasty, too! Roll up and make sure you cut them in half at an angle. (Very important for visual sake!) We also had some juicy green pears...and oranges...and plums...these boys just kept going! Hungry!

For our snack we made nerdy popcorn and made it green! This is a very quick and easy treat and I like that it has just a light layer of the sweet coating. I wish I could have found "rainbow" nerds for St. Patrick's Day but pink and purple work, too.

Then we went on a green scavenger hunt and the boys found all kinds of green stuff to make pictures with. It was lots of fun. Even Coen got in on the fun. Once he learned that the pile of green stuff wasn't salad (he LOVES salad) he was good to go.

The finished pictures. Plenty of green here!

Peanut Butter Cup Brownies

I thought I'd post the recipe for the brownies we had for my birthday. You've got to try them at least once!

Peanut Butter Cup Brownies

1 (9x13) box brownie mix

**Make as directed on box-eggs, oil, water. Pour into a greased 9x13. Set aside.

1 (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1 egg
1/4 c. peanut butter
1/2 c. sugar

**Mix until smooth. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto the brownie batter in 9x 13. Run a knife through it and marble it. Bake as directed on box. About 2 minutes from being done...put the following mixture on top and bake 2 minutes more or until marshmallows are puffy.

2 c. miniature marshmallows
1 c. milk chocolate chips
12 Reese's peanut butter cups (We used 18 miniature size ones. I did a row of 3, then 2, then 3, then 2, etc. until I covered the top. You could probably chop them up and sprinkle them on top, too.)

**When marshmallows are puffy, remove from oven and drizzle 1/4 cup melted peanut butter over the top. It looks to die for...and it is!

Happy Birthday to...Me!

Today is my birthday! 31 years old! Wow! I remember when MY parents were in their 30s! How can I be there already? This year feels different than last year. Last year was huge because I was entering a new decade but I didn't really think much about the decade itself. This year I just feel like I'm officially "in" my 30s. Weird. I feel like I should be so grown up and I don't really feel like I am. Ha!

The day was beautiful. The nice thing about living in Texas is that I've always had a nice, warm, sun-shining birthday for the first time ever. Today was no exception. Granted, it wasn't as warm as yesterday's 86 degrees. But it was still in the 70s and very nice. I got several calls from my family during the day and that made it fun. My Mom also sent a fun package. She always does. I loved the card she made me and how she said that "for the last 31 years she's been gathering special little things for me." At first I thought, "Wow! She's saved something for me for 31 years?" and then I realized what she was saying was for the last 31 years she has given me little treasures that she had picked out knowing I would love them. She's never missed a birthday. And most of my birthdays from age 19 on I have been away from home and she's mailed them to me...to Utah, France, Colorado, and Texas. Wow! I always look forward to her package with the special treasures. Things she knows I love and things I probably wouldn't get for myself. She always puts so much thought into each gift. And I just have to show how beautifully she wraps them, too!

Tory's in the middle of national boards so I wasn't expecting a big to-do today. We decided that later, after all the tests were finished, would be more fun and enjoyable anyway. Plus it is Austin's Spring Break so we'd be a little more flexible. (Too bad Tory doesn't have a Spring Break...bummer.) But you know Tory. He had to do something. So he made me a delicious dinner. (A study break he said.) We started out with appetizers. Yes indeed. A huge tray of veggies and some chips and dip. We nibbled while he slaved away on the rest of dinner. We had shredded bar-b-q chicken sandwiches, baked beans, salad, and baked potatoes. It was very good! We were absolutely stuffed though!

He also got all the fixin's for my "cake". I requested Peanut Butter Cup Brownies. My mom just passed along the recipe not too long ago and they looked so delicious but also something I would never make "just for fun". Whoa! I think whoever invented this recipe pretty much put in everything they could think of...except caramel. It was getting pretty late in the evening so I volunteered to help out and made the "cake" myself. It was really good. But REALLY rich. Yummy! We all went to bed early so that Tory and James could wake up early for their boards in the morning. I found a card tucked under my pillow from Tory. That was the best thing of all. I love it when he writes me a good long "love" letter! Thanks for the fun day Tory and my family! You all made it extra special!

Coen's Funny Face

I've been telling my family about this face Coen makes. My sister Kirsten used to do the same kind of thing when she was a little baby. He flattens down his nose and curls his upper lip up so high that it practically seals off his nostrils and then makes a sniffing noise. It's so funny! And he does it ALL THE TIME! But you can't imagine how hard it is to get a picture of him in action. I finally succeeded today. I even got a side view! So glad I finally captured it because I'm sure he won't do it forever...Kir doesn't anyway...at least I don't think so!

You Know You're From Kansas When....

Oh man! I just ran across this today while I was typing my previous post. (I was checking the spelling of caddy wampus. I always thought it was scaddy wampus. Hmmm...) It was too good to pass up. I love Kansas and even though we don't live there anymore I still consider Tribune to be my "hometown". I did live there for 14 years after all! For all of you from Kansas...enjoy!

....Your closest neighbor is more than a mile away, and you can still see him from your front porch. (Totally our neighbors!)

....Except in Johnson County, a Mercedes Benz is not a status symbol. A Ford F150 4x4 is.

....Traffic congestion is ten cars waiting to pass a combine on the highway. (And it gets even worse during harvest time!)

....The radio buttons on a new car are all preset to country. (I have to say I HATED country the entire time I lived in Kansas. It wasn't until I left to go to BYU and took some country dancing classes that I began to like it. Now I LOVE it and listen to it all the time! Sorry to all of my friends who had to hear me grumble and complain whenever they turned on their country music!)

....You know that the true value of a parking space is not determined by the distance to the door but by the availability of shade.

....You think that people who complain about the wind in their states are sissies. (70 mph is nothing folks! If it's not windy in Kansas you know something's brewing! Probably in for a good storm! No wonder we had to use so much hairspray! Had to keep those bangs up in that wind!)

....You call that smell coming from the feedyards...Money. (And that's the only thing that makes that smell worth it. Something you just never really get used to.)

....You've had classes canceled for heat and snow in the same month. (Dramatic weather changes...kind of like here in Texas...hmmmm)

....You can say 110 degrees without fainting. (Yes Tory, it DOES get hot in Kansas! VERY hot!)

....Your school classes were canceled because of cold. (And yes, it gets VERY cold!)

....Hot water now comes out of both taps. (I didn't know water could come out so cold until I moved to Colorado!)

....Going on vacation means going to Hutch to the fair, Abilene to Ike's house or Boot Hill to see Miss Kitty. (And great attractions those are! But we were fortunate. We actually did leave Kansas for every vacation we had. I know several people who never left! But if you farm you can't just pick up and leave in the summer very easily I guess.)

....Your excuse for being late is the cows got out, and the boss accepts it MANY times.

....Your main drag in town is two blocks long. (Oh man! This one's the BEST! This is what we did on a weekend in Tribune, Kansas. Everyone did the loop. Cracks Tory up!)

....Even foreheads have a farmer's tan.

....You've been hit by enough tornadoes to know there is no such thing as Oz. (We've all got at least one good tornado story to tell! But living in Kansas is the reason I still LOVE a good storm! Bring it on!)

....Dust is nearly as haunting as the bogeyman.

....Everything's about 30 minutes away. (Ask a Kansan where the next town or the nearest gas station is and they'll answer, "Oh about 30 minutes that-a-way" or point you "roughly 30 minutes due south.")

....You've been to see Santa at the the North Pole in Colorado Springs more than once. (Sadly we only got to go once. But...we DID get to go! Which is a miracle in and of itself. It's probably one of the most "touristy" places we ever went growing up. My Dad was not a touristy kind of guy and most of our vacations consisted of camping and backpacking and visiting every national monument along the route. Which was always fun. But the North Pole will always stand out in my mind.)

....You learned how to shoot a gun before you learned how to multiply. (True indeed.)

....You're ready to shoot the next person who asks about Toto or Dorothy. (Come on people. Is that as original as you can get? No my name is not Dorthy, I don't have a dog named Toto, I have seen a tornado, but I don't live on the yellow brick road. Any other questions? Oh...and Kansas is located right in the middle of the United States pretty much. I can't believe how many people don't know where Kansas is! Wow!)

....You have to travel 20 miles just to go to the nearest mall. (20 miles nothing! We had to go all the way to Garden City to get some decent shopping. That was almost 2 hours each way! And if you wanted some REAL selection you had to drive to Colorado Springs or Denver. A good 3-4 hour drive each way!)

....You are not surprised to find movie rentals, ammunition and bait all in the same store.

....You had at least one summer job that was bucking bails or custom cutting. (I never actually had an official job during harvest but we always had fun going on a few turns in the combine with Grandad...a REAL farmer...Tory. LOL)

....You really do think Sunflowers are beautiful. (They really are. Especially when you see an entire field full of them!)

....You went to skating parties as a kid. (Uh, didn't everyone? Hmmm...)

....Your earliest driving lessons were in a field while picking up hay. (And boy was Grandad's pickup truck hard to shift! Wow!)

....You wave to all the oncoming traffic. (That was probably the hardest thing for me to get used to after moving from Kansas. You wave to EVERYONE in Kansas. I felt so mean and stuck up when we moved. And I had to grip the steering wheel with both hands to control the urge to lift a finger and wave! Too funny!)

....You can properly pronounce Salina, Basehor, Schoenchen, Kechi, Olathe, Chautauqua and Osawatomie.

....You know that cow pies aren’t made of beef. (But they are good for garden fertilizer and when you live next to a cow pasture as a child you are often sent out to gather them up in the wagon. At least they dry good! Ahhhh...the things we had to do. Do you hear that boys?)

....There’s a tornado warning and the whole town is outside looking for it. (Sure we had our tornado drills at school but many times they were for real! I remember one time when my brothers and sisters and Dad were all out riding bikes and we heard the sirens all the way out where we lived 5 miles out of town. We weren't really paying attention but when we heard that we looked up and there was a tornado right over Tribune. Dad sent us all home and got his camera and went back out to take a picture. It turned out awesome and was even used by the news station.)

....Those strange lights you see at night is a farmer working late in the field – not a UFO. (If they know a big rain or hail storm is coming, those farmers will do whatever it takes to save their crops! You just don't mess around with something you've spent months on!)

....You have seen people wear bib overalls to funerals and weddings.

....You don’t buy all your vegetables at the grocery store. (We had TWO gardens. The upper garden and the lower garden. Now THAT was our summer job! Weed, weed, weed...water, water, water...pick, pick, pick.)

....You know the words to "Home on the Range." (And the state animal is the buffalo, the bird is the meadowlark, the tree is the cottonwood, and the flower is the sunflower!)

....Using the elevator involves a corn or wheat truck. (I always loved to go with Grandad when he dumped his load off at the grain elevators. So cool!)

....What in the world is a vegetarian special? We don't even know what that is much less serve it at the local diner.

....You no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water. (We lived by the White Woman Creek. It ran right through our property. Only saw water in it once the entire 14 years we lived there.)

....You discover that in July, it takes only two fingers to drive your car.

....You discover that you can get a sunburn through your car window.

....You know the real way to pronounce the name of Clintons state and the river... arKANSAS. (There's a whole list of words Kansans know how to pronounce. Most of them we didn't pick up...or use anyway...because we would get corrected at home. LOL)

....The only tourists you see are on the way to Colorado.

....You complain that you can not see Scott City...And you are in Dighton!

.... You know several people who have hit a deer. (And most likely you've been in the car when it happens...at least once!)

....It's a bottle or a can of pop here. Soda is something you bake a cake with.

....The phrase "I'm going to 'The Lake' this weekend" only means one thing. (Oh yes! THE lake! Does it even have a name? LOL)

....You measure distance in minutes rather than miles.

....You know a storm is coming hours before it gets there because you can watch it come in. (One of the best parts of Kansas. The view goes for miles! They also have the best sunsets because it's like you're surrounded by it. Nothing to block it for miles and miles.)

....You think the opening day of pheasant season and deer season is a national holiday.

....You've ridden the school bus for an hour each way. (And that's just the normal routes. We won't get into how long our bus rides were when we traveled to play other teams in sports! Settle in a for a good, long ride!)

....You know that Mount Sunflower, although not a true mountain, is the highest point in the state of Kansas.

....You end sentences with an unnecessary preposition. Example: "Where's my coat at?"

....You see a car running in the parking lot with no one in it no matter what time of the year.

...Finally, you are 100% Kansan if you have ever had this conversation:
~You wanna Coke?
~Yeah.
~What kind?
~Dr. Pepper.

....You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Kansas.

Scared Twice

OK, so now for the story I was going to tell you a couple days ago. The day that our big snow storm hit. I was in a hurry to go pick up Austin from school. I ran to the bathroom to get a a ponytail holder and of course Coen, my little shadow, had to follow me. I was in there for SECONDS literally. In that amount of time the little child grabbed my glasses and managed to twist one of the earpieces into a very abnormal angle. My glasses! They are the one thing I cannot live without. For one thing I wear them every single day. Even on the days I wear my contacts I have to put my glasses on immediately after taking them out because I am so blind. For another thing, they aren't that old. I feel like I just barely bought them! But since I was in a rush I passed them off to Tory and told him to do what he could with them.

I quickly grabbed my purse and opened the door. I don't know what it was...maybe the speed of my door opening, the pace I was already going, or the cold, dark, rainy weather outside, but all my mind saw was a person's face literally inches from mine! A face surrounded in black. I screamed. He screamed. I slammed the door. I pulled myself together and opened it once more. (I was feeling brave since Tory was sitting right there behind me on the couch. Plus...I was in a hurry!) There WAS a man there and he looked as scared as I did. He had both hands up in the air (like I had a loaded weapon and was going to shoot him or something) and he was apologizing profusely for scaring me. Upon further notice, he was a pretty scary looking guy. An older fellow with every other tooth or so missing. The black surrounding him was his black coat and hood. (LOL) But he was innocent enough. He was simply hanging up one of those annoying fliers I'm always finding stuck on my doorknob. That's why his face was so close. Oh boy. So funny.

So now you can see why I was a little jumpy that same night when I was turning off the porch light and had just turned to leave the entry way when all of a sudden someone started pounding on the door! That time I DID have Tory open it! And he was just laughing at me. Who can blame me? Oh, and as for my glasses...Tory did a pretty good job putting them back to normal but they are still a bit caddy wampus and don't quite line up right. I'm afraid they'll never be the same. One of these days when Tory's home to watch the boys I'll take them in to the eye doctors and see if they can fix them with all of their special tools. For now, I'm just thankful they still are wearable!

It's Snow...in Texas...in March!

What a cold blustery day we've had today! But we did get something good out of it. Lots and lots of white fluffy snow! The flakes were HUGE! My camera just wouldn't capture it. It seriously looked like cotton balls were falling out of the sky! And it's actually sticking to the ground and staying around! How fun! Yesterday it was 70 and we were playing at the park! Crazy! We got about 5-6 inches today! Everything is buried! Tory's school and clinic were closed down so he had to cancel all of his patients. He and James got some good study time in and then it was time....to PLAY!

We bundled everyone up as best as we could. We had to dig for most of the winter wear. We don't get much use of it here. Tory didn't even bother to get out his warm coat. Crazy guy. Coen was the best dressed. But he had lots of hand-me-downs from his Colorado brothers. The big boys on the other hand were a little short on the outer wear. Who wants to buy boots when you might not even get to wear them even once in a year! They did fine though and had a blast. They built a HUGE snowman which was quite the star in our neighborhood! People were coming all dressed up in their winter clothes to take pictures by it! How funny! And later tonight at about 8:00 I was turning off the porch light and as soon as I turned around someone was pounding on the door. Scared me to death. (This is not the first scare at the door I've had today. More on that later!) I had to have Tory open it. Turns out is was a few teenagers who wanted to let us know we had the BEST snowman around. They even went so far as to say how tall and straight and smooth it was while others in the neighborhood were tilting, etc. Oh man! I was dieing! Funny! Guess we've had a little practice making snowmen in Colorado and other places we've lived that actually get snow in the winter!

Tory had fun shoveling the walks again. That was always one of his favorite things to do in Colorado. (That and chopping firewood. We don't do much of either one anymore!) He'd shovel all day if he could. He had to use a little different shovel this time though. Again...who wants to buy a snow shovel when you never really get to use it? (And believe me...we don't need another thing in our garage!) I don't think we have those laws here that make you shovel your walks like they do in other states. If snow falls here I think it's against the law to remove it! LOL You just want to enjoy it as much as you can. We even made homemade hot chocolate for the occasion. I'm not a big hot chocolate fan but I even had a half a mug full for old times sake. Pretty tasty if I do say so myself. We had some pralines and cream powdered coffee mate that I threw in and it was so good! (One of Tory's random purchases one day. We don't drink coffee but thought it would be good in our Postum and other miscellaneous things. LOL) So all in all it turned out to be a very cold, white, and fun day. They boys went to bed exhausted! Yeah for snow! OK...now I'm ready for Spring again. It was fun to have a taste of it though!

A Fun Game

Our friend, James, came back from Alabama this week to get ready for the chiropractic board review session and the actual boards coming up in a couple weeks. Tory's taking them, too. Fun, fun. But in the meantime James will be staying with us. Last night he brought out a new game for us to play. We'd never heard of it. Maybe you have. If not, you've got to check it out! It's called Ticket to Ride. It kind of reminds me of Settlers of Catan (which I LOVE) but it's still very different. And as a bonus...you can actually play with only 2 players (2-5)! We're always looking for games you can play with 2 or more. We were also surprised that it didn't take forever to play a round either. Game play is between 30-60 minutes. The original game is a map of the United States. It is a cross-country train adventure in which players collect and play matching train cards to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who can fulfill their Destination Tickets by connecting two distant cities, and to the player who builds the longest continuous railway. We actually played the European version. Pretty much the same probably only it's a map of Europe. Tons of fun. Definitely going on my "Games to Get Someday" list! Unfortunately it's a little bit on the more expensive side for a game. But well worth it I'd say!

What I NEED!!!

I woke up Saturday morning thinking of these little guys:

Tasty cinnamon bears covered in milk chocolate. Have you ever tasted these? I think you probably either have to love them or hate them. I, for one, LOVE them. But I haven't had them in forever. The first time I tasted them was when I was visiting my Mom in Utah. There is a store in Ogden called Kitchen Kneads and that's where we picked up a bag. One bite into these chewy, chocolaty, spicy little bears and I was hooked! Well fast-forward to Saturday and I HAD to have some! I called Sprouts, a health food store that sells bulk foods as well. I KNOW I've seen them there before. They had someone go look for me and he returned without good news. So I called Central Market, another health food type store with tons of bulk items. The person in their grocery department confirmed that they had them. So after I took the three boys to Home Depot to do their monthly craft (they usually go with Tory but lately Tory's had patients every Saturday morning.) I headed to Central Market with the sole purpose of getting chocolate cinnamon bears. I got to the bulk bins and headed to the chocolate candy section and looked and then looked again and then not trusting myself asked a store worker if they had the bears. No. No chocolate cinnamon bears. Only chocolate GUMMY bears. I sampled one and sure...they were OK. About a quarter of the size but chewy and chocolaty but definitely missing the cinnamon factor which is a very important ingredient. What a bummer! What a wasted trip! I couldn't even think of anything else I needed there. (I can think of several things NOW that I should have picked up like brown rice and some more flax seeds...oh well!) I don't know what I'm going to do now! It's Monday and I am still thinking about them. I can't even imagine what other store I could even try! Sad, sad day. Maybe I'll have to buy regular cinnamon bears and dip them in chocolate myself. Hmmmm........
